Audition results for First Annual Lesbian & Gay

Talent Show

The First Annual Lesbian & Gay Talent Show, set for Nov. 16th, is bound to be a show-stopper, according to producer Brynna Fish of Bluefish Productions. The audition panel from the Lesbian-Gay Community Service Center is pleased with the audition response and is sure the community will be

quite surprised at the show.

The show fulfills a long-held vision of bringing the lesbian and gay men of our com-

munity together for an evening of entertain-

ment and socializing while benefiting, as a fund-raiser, the Center of Greater Cleveland.

The show will be different from any show ever offered the community. First, it is targeted to both women and men, in the entertainment selected and by virtue of the fact that it's sponsored by the Center. Second, the show is a talent search of sorts, and a talent contest. Performers are competing for three cash prizes: a $500 first prize, a $300 second prize, and a $200 third prize.

Judging will include audience response, measured by a sound meter, and the decisions of a panel of celebrity judges. The celebrity judges are one of many surprises of the show.

Selecting from many, many auditions, here are some of the performers who will appear:

MELISSA FOOR: Melissa can sing like Anita Baker, belt out the blues like nobody's business and her mere stage presence is so powerful it affects electrical currents. She has performed in the Akron area, Pennsylvania, Atlantic City, and New York City.

RICHARD SALAMONE: Richard is a quiet, sensitive person whose personality charges through his magical fingers--on the

piano, that is. He has never had a music or piano lesson. He plays totally by ear and from his heart, and will play original selections. His influences include new age, jazz, and classical music.

MICKI: Women in the community will recall Micki from her two consecutive performances at Oven Productions' Variety Shows. Her debut tape was released this past winter and has been selling well at Gifts of Athena. A vocalist, songwriter, and composer, Micki always leaves the stage with a standing ovation.

THE COASTLINERS: An octet from the North Coast Men's Chorus, this group of eight

musical men charms with its choral interpretations of popular music. No typical "chorus" music here. NCMC fans, as well as, those unfamiliar with the work of the chorus, will be tickled with what comes out of these eight pairs of lips.

BUCK HARRIS: What, you may be thinking, could Buck Harris be doing in a talent show?? We were wondering ourselves, until his audition. Here is a man who has done much work in our community on behalf AIDS education, a serious and much-needed mission. What you will see at the show is a wild sense of humor that must be one of the many powerful forces that keep keep him going. Also, did you know he plays guitar?

PAT HENDERSON: Performance artist, musician, and vocalist Pat Henderson will be doing a selection of original work about floating dreams. Movement, dance, and instruments enhance Pat's voice and musical composition. He has performed locally with his band, Project Blipsquid.

Some of the other performers in the show include guitarist and vocalist Lisa Stevens, vocalist Miquel Osborn, Vince "The Great Pretender", and the ever-popular Yofreakka.

With these acts chosen, the emphasis this month will be on rehearsing and orchestrating some fun production surprises. Fish noted that we may see some of the performers back each other up or collaborate on special numbers.

As a sneak preview, the community is invited to an open rehearsal on Sunday, Oct. 20th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Civic in Cleveland Heights. Anyone who comes to watch the rehearsal will be given a $1 coupon off the talent show ticket price. Also, at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 20th at the Civic, there will be a Community Kick-off meeting to promote the show. Anyone wanting flyers to distribute, tickets to sell, or information on how to receive free talent show tickets should attend this meeting. The meeting will include a special pre-performance entertainment segment.

Tickets for the show are on sale now at the Bookstore on W. 25th, Gifts of Athena bookstore, 2199 Lee Road, and at the Center. Tickets are also available by mail, by sending a check (payable to the Center) for the number of tickets you want, and a selfaddressed, stamped envelope to: Talent Show Tix, LGCSC, 1418 W. 29th Street, Cleveland, OH 44113. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door.

A party, with DJ music, dancing, and refreshments, will follow the show at the Civic.

Emcees for the show will be local community activist Zak Haley and San Francisco based comedienne Karen Williams.
